I thought I saw you as an angel
in my dreams with arms outstretched
not noticing the stage set behind you
or the spotlight which draped you in angelic glow
I thought I saw you as an angel
sweet music flowing from your lips
not noticing the soundtrack playing
nor that you were mouthing the words to it
I thought I saw you as an angel
I cried at your feet and took your hand
not noticing the bodies all around us
with faded smiles and outstretched arms
I thought I knew you, as my angel
until you raised your hidden scythe
not noticing the bloodstained blade
nor your smiling eyes reflected in it
